Hyderabad, April 4 -- : A national-level FIDE Rating Open Chess Tournament for the visually challenged will be held at the Devnar School for the Blind in Begumpet here from May 6-10, bringing together over 400 participants from across the country.

The 2026 edition is expected to be the largest event of its kind globally, providing a major platform for visually impaired players to showcase their skills in competitive chess, according to Padma Shri Awardee Dr. A. Saibaba Goud, Founder Chairman, Devnar Foundation for the Blind, Hyderabad.

The tournament will be conducted under international FIDE rules, with specially designed tactile chessboards enabling players to identify squares and pieces, ensuring a level playing field, he said.
