Shillong, Sept. 22 -- The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) today demanded a special session of the Meghalaya assembly to adopt a Resolution to oppose the recent centre's Office Memorandum (OM), exempting mining of atomic minerals from mandatory public hearings.
In a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who also holds the Mining and Geology portfolio, the HYC a pressure group in Meghalaya, said public consultations-hearings for mining of atomic minerals like Uranium, etc. is a prerequisite condition under the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), 2006.
