Balasore, Dec. 17 -- A local court on Wednesday sentenced a husband and his mother to seven years of rigorous imprisonment each along with a fine of Rs 7,000, for the murder of a young woman over unmet dowry demands.
The court ruled that in case of non-payment of the fine, the convicts will serve an additional four months in prison.
The convicted, Prasant Jena and his mother Hirabati Jena, residents of Kalyani area, were found guilty of murdering Rina Rani Das and disposing of her body in a pond in front of their house.
The victim's family had lodged an FIR at Soro police station on August 17, 2015.
