Shimla, Dec. 6 -- A major fire broke out on Friday evening in a wooden house owned by Mella Ram in the Dhabass-Kenchi area of Chopal, officials told UNI.
The blaze destroyed the upper storey of the two-storey residence, leaving the family without shelter amid severe cold.
According to Rattan Singh, a lineman with the Forest Unit, Chopal, the control room received a distress call around 4 pm, prompting the deployment of four fire tenders to the site.
Firefighters battled the flames for several hours, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to nearby structures.
Officials reported that the top floor was completely gutted, with preliminary losses estimated at Rs 15 lakh, while property worth around Rs 50 lakh was saved thanks to ti...
