Shimla, Oct. 21 -- The Himachal Pradesh government appears to have failed to comply with the High Court directive mandating completion of delimitation and reservation roster for Panchayati Raj Institutions before the end of their tenure. The delay has cast uncertainty over the timing of the panchayat polls in the state.

In its 2020 judgment, the High Court clearly directed the state to ensure that the delimitation and reservation roster process for PRIs be completed well before the expiry of the existing bodies. The court had emphasized that this was essential to hold timely elections, as required under Article 243-E of the Constitution.
