Shimla, April 15 -- A recent circular issued by the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department, outlining stringent guidelines for the implementation of the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006, has drawn sharp criticism from CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat.

In a strongly worded letter to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the veteran politician demanded immediate withdrawal of the notification, calling it "anti-FRA" and "illegal," while warning against bureaucratic overreach in interpreting the landmark legislation.

The controversial circular, dated April 11, 2025, and issued by the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, has become the centre of a growing political storm.
