Bengaluru, Aug. 24 -- The Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission has launched the first stage of the caste census after a gap of ten years, beginning with geo-tagging of household electricity meters across the state.

Commission Chairman Madhusudan R Naik said the meter readers will carry out geo-tagging during their billing cycle using a specially developed mobile application. A complete list of households with serial numbers and mapping will be prepared in this phase.

Naik said since all residential houses have electricity connections, households will be identified based on RR numbers and the people residing there will be surveyed. The second phase of the survey is scheduled between September 22 and October 7.
