Chandigarh , Aug. 23 -- At least four people were killed and 23 others sustained severe burn injuries after a vegetable-laden pickup van collided with an LPG tanker near Mandiala village in Punjab's Hoshiarpur late Friday night, triggering a massive fire.
The collision led to a gas leak, which fueled the flames and caused the fire to spread rapidly, engulfing 15 shops and four houses. The blaze was so intense that it was visible from nearly 4 km away, sparking panic as residents fled their homes.
The incident occurred around 11:15 pm, officials said. The injured were rushed to both civil and private hospitals, with several critical patients referred to private facilities due to a shortage of beds at the local hospital.
