Sabarimala (Kerala), Nov. 27 -- A serious safety breach has come to light at the world-renowned Lord Ayyappa temple after honey meant for temple rituals was allegedly delivered in containers that had previously stored formic acid.
The irregularity was detected during an inspection conducted by the Devaswom Vigilance wing.
Following the Vigilance alert, temple authorities immediately withdrew the suspected batch and ensured it was not used for any ritual purposes.
The incident has raised concerns over the quality-control system at the Food Safety Laboratory in Pampa, which had cleared the honey without identifying the alleged contamination. A show-cause notice has since been issued to the contractor.
