New Delhi, April 25 -- Hockey India has condoled the demise of former India player Gurbax Singh Grewal, a member of the bronze medal-winning team at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. Grewal breathed his last at his residence in Zirakpur, near Chandigarh, after suffering a heart attack. He was 84.
Born on April 1, 1942, in Lyallpur (now Faisalabad in Pakistan) in undivided India, Grewal was a fast and skilful forward. He represented India at the 1968 Olympics, where the team went on to win a bronze medal.
What made it even more special was that Gurbax featured alongside his brother Balbir Singh Grewal at the same Olympics - a rare moment in Indian hockey history, becoming the first siblings to represent India together at the Games.
