Shillong, March 22 -- The outlawed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), a Khasi militant outfit in Meghalaya, on Saturday petitioned before the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal headed by Gauhati High Court judge Justice Soumitra Saikia challenging the ban imposed on it by the central government.
In November 2024, the Central government extended the ban on the HNLC for a period of five years and fixed February 13, 2025 for submission of replies or objections before the UAPA.
The HNLC, which operates from its hideout in Bangladesh, has challenged this decision and the next hearing on the petition has been fixed on April 9 at Guwahati.
