Raichur, June 21 -- In the backdrop of a controversial audio clip allegedly involving senior leader BR Patil, Karnataka Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil has drawn attention to a staggering backlog of illegal mining cases in the state - revealing that of more than 12,000 registered cases, only 0.2 per cent have reached final judgement.

Speaking to the media at the University of Agricultural Sciences in Raichur, Patil said, "Despite over 12,000 cases being registered related to illegal mining, only 7 per cent have even been investigated. Of those, convictions have been delivered in merely 2 per cent - which comes down to just 0.2 per cent of the total cases."
