Bengaluru, Jan. 9 -- Karnataka Minister HK Patil on Friday did not mince words in condemning the central government's repeal of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), calling it "draconian" and a severe blow to rural workers.
"It is regrettable that the Government of India has repealed MGNREGA," Patil told reporters. "This draconian move strips people, especially agricultural labourers and rural workers, of a right they had long depended upon for survival."Congress, seizing the moment, has announced a nationwide three-phase agitation under the banner "MGNREGA Bachao" to protest the repeal and counter the newly enacted Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Act.
