Azamgarh, Aug. 23 -- : Shankar Kanaujia, a wanted criminal carrying a bounty of Rs 1 lakh was today killed in an encounter with the Special Task Force (STF) in Azamgarh district here in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said.
Police sources said that the Varanasi unit of STF had received information that Shankar Kanaujia, accused in several cases of robbery and murder, was planning a major crime with his gang in the Azamgarh area.
Acting on the tip-off, a team led by Inspector Puneet Parihar launched an operation in the Jahanaganj police station limits.
