Bhubaneswar, April 1 -- The historic Paralakhemundi Railway Station in Odisha, which holds a special place in Indian Railway history, is set to undergo a major transformation as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, an initiative launched by the Ministry of Railways to upgrade stations across India.

It is the first dedicated railway line in Odisha, established in 1899 under the patronage of the Gajapati Maharaja of Paralakhemundi.

This line, known as the Paralakhemundi Light Railway (PLR), was also the first narrow-gauge railway line in Odisha and remains one of the oldest railway stations in the state.
