Chandigarh, Nov. 24 -- The elevation of Justice Surya Kant to the post of Chief Justice of India (CJI) turned into a moment of pride for Haryana on Monday, as people in his hometown Hisar celebrated the occasion.

Justice Surya Kant became the first person from the state to occupy the country's highest judicial chair. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath at Rashtrapati Bhavan during a ceremony.

Across Hisar, Rohtak and Bhiwani, members of the legal fraternity marked the day with prayers, drumbeats and community gatherings.
