Mumbai, May 6 -- The Maharashtra government officially backtracked and hastily cancelled a move to conduct a Hindi language examination for state government officials, hours after the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and the Marathi Abhyas Kendra (Marathi Language Study Centre) threatened to launch an agitation against the move on Wednesday.
Maharashtra's Minister for language Uday Samant officially announced that the Hindi exam which was scheduled to be held on June 28 stands cancelled, adding that he will verify whether a Hindi examination is needed for state government employees.
