Kangra, Aug. 7 -- Following heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh resulting in high inflows being received in the Pong dam reservoir, additional water was released this morning, prompting flood alert across many areas of the state, authorities said.

The additional superintending engineer water regulation, Talwara Township, told UNI that the maximum possible release from the turbines of the Pong Dam Power House and through the spillway gates of Pong reservoir was 40,000 cusecs, which was made at 06:00 hours today. The releases will be increased in a phased manner as per the conventional protocol, authorities said.
