Shimla, Jan. 2 -- Former Member of Parliament, All India Congress Committee member and former Himachal Pradesh Congress president Pratibha Singh today said the Congress would launch a public awareness campaign in rural areas of the state against what it described as the dilution of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) and the removal of Mahatma Gandhi's name from the scheme.

Ms Singh said the decision was taken at the recent Congress Working Committee meeting, where party leaders across the country were asked to initiate a mass movement to protect the original spirit of MNREGA.
