Shimla, July 31 -- Himachal Pradesh has received 10 per cent above-normal rainfall in the first 43 days of the South-West Monsoon, making for an intense start to the season.

Some districts have received exceptionally high rainfall, with Shimla recording 71% and Mandi 61% above average.

Overnight rain disrupted normal life again, with the Chandigarh-Manali-Leh National Highway (NH-3) blocked at Pandoh in Mandi district and restored around 9am today.

In Manali, the Nehru Kund swelled due to continuous downpour, triggering panic among locals. A JCB machine was deployed by the local MLA and officials at midnight to divert water away from the bridge's foundation. The Beas River also rose sharply but started receding this morning as the rains...
