Shimla, Oct. 18 -- The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) has prepared a new proposal aimed at rationalizing electricity subsidies and ensuring that the benefits reach deserving households.

Under the proposed system, domestic power consumers will be eligible for subsidies on only two electricity metres registered in their names. Any additional meters will be billed at normal, non-subsidized rates.

Currently, domestic consumers in the state receive up to 125 units of free electricity per month per connection. However, several consumers-particularly homeowners and large families-hold multiple connections under the same name, thereby enjoying subsidies on all.
