Shimla, March 22 -- Himachal Pradesh boasts the highest Pupil-Teacher Ratio (PTR) in the country, with the state government working to fill vacant teaching positions despite a significant decline in student enrolment.
Over the past 20 years, student enrolment has dropped by around five lakh and five per cent.
In response to a query from Pawan Kajal (Kangra), Education Minister Rohit Thakur highlighted that 5,291 teaching posts have been filled in the past two years, with 3,450 appointments made, including positions for Shastri and JBT categories, as well as for the handicapped category. While some posts are still under legal scrutiny, a total of 3,730 posts are being filled.
