Shimla, Aug. 25 -- The Himachal Pradesh government has issued urgent advisories and implemented drastic measures, including suspending a major pilgrimage and closing schools, as the state grapples with intense monsoon rainfall that has triggered landslides, flash floods, and a rising death toll.

The situation is particularly critical in the districts of Chamba and Mandi, where the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'Red Alert' for August 25 and 26, predicting "heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall."The severe weather has already claimed lives.
