Shimla, Sept. 25 -- The Himachal Pradesh High Court directed the state government to file a detailed affidavit clarifying whether the chief minister's recommendation for extending the tenure of Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena complied with the provisions of Rule 16 of the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.

Yesterday, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia and Justice Ranjan Sharma passed the order while hearing a set of public interest litigations (PILs) challenging the six-month extension and vigilance clearance granted to Saxena. The matter has been under day-to-day hearing for the past three days.
