Shimla, Aug. 6 -- Four lane land acquisition affected forum today accused the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government of betraying peasants by securing a stay from the Supreme Court on a High Court order that had paved the way for fourfold compensation to landowners.
Beliram Kaundal, forum president and Convenor Joginder Walia, in a joint statement, said that the supreme court stay is a major setback to thousands of people whose land was acquired under the four-lane highway projects and other infrastructure schemes. They claimed the government's move reflects an "anti-farmer mentality" and a deliberate attempt to deny rightful dues to rural landowners.
