Shimla, Aug. 30 -- In the wake of landslides and floods that have caused massive destruction to farmers, the general public, and infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh, the Bharatiya Kisan union (BKU) has appealed to state legislators to leave the ongoing Assembly session and reach Delhi to press the Centre to declare the natural calamity as a national disaster.
The union has also demanded a special relief package of Rs 20,000 crore for affected farmers and the general public.
BKU, Himachal Unit, president Aninder Singh Pandher said that fruit crops, especially apples and other cash crops, in various areas have either been completely destroyed or are unable to reach markets due to the collapse of road networks across several districts.
