Shimla, July 7 -- Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today expressed serious concern over the alarming rise in cloud burst incidents across Himachal Pradesh, stressing the urgent need for scientific study and stronger disaster preparedness. He was presiding over the 9th meeting of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) held in Shimla.
Referring to the recent spate of extreme weather events, the Chief Minister said that Mandi district has received 123% excess rainfall, while Shimla district recorded 105% above normal precipitation. "In only few days, 19 cloud bursts have been reported, leading to significant loss of lives and property," he said, adding that the issue has also been taken up with the Union Home Minister.
