Shimla/Kangra, Aug. 19 -- Mild earthquake tremors were felt in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh late Monday night, adding to the woes of the region already reeling under heavy monsoon devastation.

According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the quake, measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale, struck at 9:28 pm at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Tremors were reportedly felt three times, prompting many residents to rush out of their homes in panic. However, due to the low intensity, most people could not sense the shocks.

Kangra district falls under Zone-5, the highest seismic risk category, making it highly vulnerable to frequent tremors.
