Chennai, Feb. 1 -- Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday announced the setting up of a high-level committee to review the Indian banking sector to align the sector for the country's next level of growth.
Presenting her record 9th budget in the Parliament, Sitharaman said, the Indian banking sector today is characterised by strong balance sheets, historic highs in profitability, improved asset quality, and coverage exceeding 98 percent of villages in the country.
At this juncture, the country is well placed to futuristically evaluate the measures needed to continue on the path of reform-led growth of this sector.
