Nagpur, Nov. 17 -- The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has turned down the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) plea to file a closure report in the high-profile 2016 murder of architect Eknath Nimgade, citing lack of conclusive evidence, legal sources said on Monday.

Nimgade, 76, was shot dead on September 6, 2016, while returning from his morning walk near Lal Imli Chowk. Despite a lengthy inquiry, the CBI claimed that "no concrete conclusions" could be drawn against any suspect.

During its investigation, the CBI examined over 120 witnesses but failed to establish a prima facie case against any individual.
