Sagar Island, Jan. 16 -- Deploying nearly 3,000 sanitation workers, the West Bengal administration on Friday launched an extensive cleanliness drive across all the beaches of the Gangasagar Fair zone as the religious congregation came to an end in the South 24-Parganas district.
Under the supervision of half a dozen state ministers, the army of sanitation workers got busy cleaning six major sea-front stretches, restoring the coastline to a pristine condition within a day.
State ministers Aroop Biswas, Bankim Hazra, Becharam Manna, Sujit Bose, Snehasis Chakraborty and Pulak Roy, along with district magistrate Arvind Kumar Meena, personally participated in the cleanliness campaign and interacted with the sanitation workers and beach guards....
