Shimla, Feb. 28 -- Himachal Pradesh remains locked in a fierce winter grip as heavy snowfall, torrential rain, and plunging temperatures continue to cripple normal life, sever road connectivity, and disrupt essential services.

The state capital, Shimla, had a record 130 mm of rainfall in the last two days, dipping down a maximum temperature to 8degC, while Keylong plunged to freezing point (0degC) and Manali hovered at 1.5degC, with the average maximum temperature across the state plummeting 7.5degC below normal on Thursday.

The Indian Meteorological Department's Orange Alert stayed active amid escalating threats of landslides, avalanches, and flash floods, particularly in Kullu, Shimla, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, and Chamba districts.
