Bhubaneswar, Sept. 23 -- Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected across several parts of Odisha over the next five days due to twin low-pressure areas over the Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

According to IMD sources, a low-pressure area formed today over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and north Odisha.

The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and is expected to persist over the region for the next 24 hours before weakening.

Currently, a trough extends from the cyclonic circulation over coastal Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha to Telangana across Odisha, at a height of 1.5-3.1 km above mean sea level.
