Chandigarh, July 30 -- Continuous rains and landslides in Himachal Pradesh have prompted the release of excess water from major dams, putting parts of Punjab on high alert due to rising river levels.

On Wednesday morning, water was released from the Kol Dam on the Sutlej in Bilaspur at 7 am. Authorities have urged residents in Punjab, especially those living along riverbanks, to remain vigilant as water levels are expected to rise by 4 to 5 meters.

At 9 am, water was also discharged from the Pandoh dam on the Beas river. The released water will flow through Mandi, Dharmapur, Sandhol, Sujanpur, Nadaun, and Dehra, before flowing into Pong dam and eventually entering Punjab at Talwara.
