Kolkata, Oct. 2 -- Kolkata and its adjoining areas witnessed overcast skies and intermittent showers since this morning, coinciding with the Bijaya Dashami celebrations.

By noon, dark clouds gathered over the city, followed by heavy downpours that swept across large parts of Kolkata.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by intense rainfall over the next few hours in Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas, and South 24 Parganas, along with gusty winds blowing at speeds of 30-40 km per hour.

According to the forecast, rainfall is likely to continue throughout the day on Dashami, raising concerns that the concluding phase of Durga Puja festivities may be dampened.
