Shimla, Oct. 9 -- Heavy rain and widespread snowfall lashed several parts of Himachal Pradesh over the past 24 hours, disrupting normal life, blocking roads, and causing temperatures to plummet well below normal.

The fresh spell of snow has frozen the tribal belt of the state, leaving many high altitude roads and passes impassable.

According to the Lahaul & Spiti district police's road status report, Gondla recorded about one foot of fresh snowfall, while 15 cm was reported in Keylong, 5 cm in Hansa, and 3.2 cm in Kukumseri.

The minimum temperature at Kukumseri dipped to minus 2.5 degree celsius, while most other locations in the state recorded night temperatures four degrees below normal, the Meteorological Department said.
