Mumbai, March 10 -- A heatwave has gripped Mumbai and neighbouring districts of Thane and Palghar as temperatures continue to rise steadily. The week began with intense heat, with Mumbai recording a maximum temperature of 38.4 degrees Celsius on Monday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the temperature is likely to remain around 38 degrees Celsius on Tuesday as well. According to weather officials, hot winds blowing from the eastern regions towards the Konkan coast have triggered the heatwave conditions across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Meteorologists said the situation has been influenced by an anticyclone formed over Rajasthan and Gujarat, which is pushing hot winds towards Maharashtra.
