Bhubaneswar, July 12 -- Heat waves in India are expected to intensify in the coming years, leading to a rise in heat stress, said Dr. Akhil Srivastava from the National Weather Forecasting Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
He noted that 2024 has been recorded as the warmest year since 1901, highlighting the growing impact of global climate change.
According to Dr. Srivastava, ten of the fifteen warmest years have occurred between 2010 and
2024. The five warmest years, in descending order, are: 2024 (+0.65degC),2016 (+0.54degC),2009 (+0.40degC),2010 (+0.39degC) and 2017 (+0.38degC)
