Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 28 -- Kerala is facing a growing heart health crisis, with the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College reporting treatment of nearly 40,000 cardiac patients in just four months and performing around 400 angioplasties every month, half of them emergency cases.
Despite advanced facilities, such as reducing the door-to-balloon time for angioplasty to 60 minutes, offering affordable Trans Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) under state schemes, and maintaining global-standard mortality rates of 2-4 percent, doctors warned that lifestyle-related ailments are rising at an alarming rate.
