Mumbai, Oct. 6 -- The Bombay High Court today said it will begin hearing, from tomorrow, a batch of petitions filed both in support of and against the Maharashtra government's ordinance granting Marathas reservation under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category.
The Government Resolution (GR), issued on September 2 regarding Maratha reservation implementing the Hyderabad Gazetteer, has reignited a long-standing and emotionally charged debate over caste-based quotas in the state.
The court will hear a significant plea moved by Mangesh Sasane, chairman of the OBC Welfare Foundation, questioning five GRs issued since 2004 that permitted Marathas to seek Kunbi certificates.
