Kolkata, Sept. 19 -- The Calcutta High Court has strongly criticized the West Bengal Police for allegedly failing to take proper disciplinary action against a woman officer from Tarakeswar Police Station in Hooghly district, accused of demanding a bribe from a citizen.
A division bench comprising Justice Debangshu Basak and Justice Shabbar Rashidi expressed concern over the lack of action under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and questioned why no FIR had been registered against the officer.
Although a show-cause notice had been issued to the officer, the bench noted that the alleged bribery was not mentioned in the official documentation, raising doubts about the seriousness of the internal proceedings.
