Kolkata, Aug. 25 -- The Calcutta High Court today sought clarity from the West Bengal government on the status of Durga Puja committees that failed to submit utilisation certificates last year despite a court directive.
The division bench of Justice Sujoy Pal and Justice Smita Das De asked whether such committees were still being granted fresh honorariums this year. The judges observed that puja organisers had earlier been directed to file utilisation certificates showing how the state's financial support was spent.
"How many committees have not filed the certificates? Despite that, are they still receiving funds?" the bench asked. The matter will be heard again on Wednesday, when the state must place its stand before the court. Advocate ...
