HC questions suspension of IPS officer in Bengaluru stampede case
Bengaluru, July 19 -- The suspension of senior IPS officer Vikash Kumar Vikash following the June 4 stampede near Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium came under judicial spotlight on Friday, with the officer's counsel alleging contradictions in the Karnataka government's stand.
Appearing before a division bench of the High Court, senior advocate Dhyan Chinnappa argued that the state's suspension order appeared to be a "knee-jerk reaction" rather than a decision rooted in evidence or procedural due process.
The stampede, which claimed 11 lives and injured several others, led the state government to suspend five police officers, including Vikash, citing alleged lapses in crowd control.
