Nagpur, Dec. 2 -- The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court on Tuesday directed the Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) to conduct counting of votes for all local body elections on December 21, shifting it from the earlier date of December 3. The court also imposed a ban on exit polls until December 20.

The order came as voting was underway for 264 municipal councils and nagar panchayats across Maharashtra. The high court was hearing multiple petitions challenging the SEC's revised election schedule issued on November 29.

The SEC had postponed polls in 24 local bodies to December 20, citing several irregularities, including issues related to the withdrawal period for nominations and the subsequent allocation of election symbols. ...
