Mumbai, Aug. 13 -- The Bombay High Court today upheld its temporary ban on pigeon feeding zones, known as "kabutarkhanas," in the city.
The court directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to solicit public opinion on the matter before proceeding.
The case will be heard again in four weeks.
During the hearing, both the state government and the BMC presented their arguments.
The state indicated its willingness to allow regulated feeding in a way that wouldn't compromise public health.
The BMC suggested allowing feeding in open spaces like the racecourse between 6 pm and 8 pm, should the ban be lifted.
However, the court did not accept this proposal, emphasising that the BMC must first take into account the public's views....
