Chandigarh, Jan. 13 -- The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued strict directions to the Punjab government about the security of senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia, underscoring that ensuring his safety is a constitutional obligation of the state.

During a hearing, the High Court made it clear that any lapse in Majithia's security arrangements would not be tolerated. The court warned that if a breach is found, the responsibility would rest squarely on the Additional Director General of Police (Prisons) and the Superintendent of Nabha Jail. It further observed that in such a scenario, action could be initiated against the officers concerned.
