Chandigarh, Oct. 28 -- The Punjab and Haryana High Court has imposed a penalty of Rs 2 lakh on four senior Punjab officials, including Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, for failing to comply with its earlier orders regarding action against illegally modified vehicles operating in the state.

Justice Sudeepti Sharma, while hearing a contempt petition filed by the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Mini Transport Welfare Association, observed that the officers had shown "persistent and deliberate disobedience" towards the court's directions issued in 2023.

The court directed that the Rs 2 lakh penalty be recovered equally, Rs 50,000 each from the salaries of DGP Yadav, Pradeep Kumar (Secretary, Transport Department), Moneesh Kumar (State Transport ...
