New Delhi, Feb. 3 -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday heard a plea filed by a Muslim cleric alleging that he was a victim of a hate crime in Noida and that the local police deliberately refused to register appropriate offences under the Indian Penal Code despite repeated complaints.

A Bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta examined the petition seeking a fair and impartial investigation into the incident and action against police officials who allegedly failed to act on the petitioner's complaint.

While the Court has recently reserved orders in a batch of petitions concerning hate speech, it decided to keep the present matter pending, noting that it raised distinct issues.
