Chandigarh, Aug. 30 -- Haryana has urged the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) and Punjab to slash canal water supply by 2,500 cusecs, citing reduced demand due to heavy monsoon rains. This request has stirred tensions between the two states, potentially complicating flood management efforts in Punjab, where rivers are already at critical levels.

In a letter sent on August 29, 2025, Haryana pointed out that the water flow at the Haryana Contact Point (HCP) reached 8,894 cusecs, surpassing the state's requested 7,900 cusecs.
