Chandigarh, Dec. 3 -- The Haryana government has cancelled the high-profile auction of a VIP vehicle number HR 88 B 8888, after the winning bidder failed to deposit the bid amount of Rs 1.17 crore. Transport Minister Anil Vij has directed officials to conduct a thorough investigation into the bidder's assets and income, calling the matter a serious breach of responsibility.

Speaking to the media, Vij said that bidding for VIP or fancy numbers is not a hobby but a financial commitment. He emphasised that the security deposit and subsequent payment are part of a regulated process that supports the state's revenue.
